Japan Meteorological Agency issues alert
The Japan Meteorological Agency has stated that the 7.6 earthquake occurred at a "very shallow" depth at 4:10 p.m. local time (shallower quakes generally cause greater damage). Ishikawa Prefecture's Noto served as its epicentre.

Japan Earthquake: Japan PM Kishida's action plan
PM Kishida's action plan was summarised by the Prime Minister's office in a statement posted in Japanese on the official website:
- Completely implement preventive measures, such as the evacuation of residents, and promptly and accurately tell the public about tsunamis, evacuations, etc.
- Evaluate the damage situation immediately.
Maintain close collaboration with local authorities while adhering to the principle of prioritising human life. The government will unite and exert all necessary effort to put disaster response plans into action, including saving lives and rescuing people.
