New Delhi: The newly-constituted CBDT will hold its first meeting next week to review revenue collection work under the direct taxes category which includes income tax and corporate tax.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes, the administrative authority of the Income Tax department, is scheduled to hold a video conferencing from North block here between members of the board and top officers of the tax department from across the country on December 22, officials said.
A major reshuffle had been effected in the CBDT recently in which the newly-appointed four members were allocated their charges and work area. One member has been working in the board earlier.
The next week's meeting will be chaired by CBDT Chairperson Anita Kapur along with the five members.
"The CBDT has asked all Chief Commissioners, Directors General, I-T Commissioners (TDS) and those in the international taxation units to attend the meeting. This is the first meeting being taken by the board after new members have been appointed and distributed their charges recently," a senior official said.
The official said the meeting will not only discuss various issues and challenges facing the tax collection work but will also take forward the decisions of a similar meeting which was chaired by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in October on the same subject.
The government has fixed direct tax collection target of over Rs 7,36,221 crore for 2014-15, which is 15 percent higher than the revised estimates of the last fiscal.
Under the direct taxes category, the I-T department collects personal tax, corporate tax and wealth tax.
The CBDT has six members apart from the chairperson and is responsible for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and the Income Tax department.
