IPL 2017: MS Dhoni does not have to prove anything to anyone, says Shane Warne

New Delhi: At a time when Mahendra Singh Dhoni is being criticised for his poor run in the tenth edition of the Indian Premier League, Australia's legendary leg-spinner has come out in full support of former Indian skipper.

Dhoni, who was replaced as the skipper of Rising Pune Supergiant ahead of the tournament by Steve Smith, has failed to hit a formidable knock for his team in the tournament.

Many experts, including Sourav Ganguly, believe that he is no more a good player in the shortest format of the game.

At a time when the swords are out for Dhoni, Warne has thrown his weight behind the beleaguered wicketkeeper batsman.

Warner took to Twitter to write, ".@msdhoni does not have to prove anything to anyone, he's class & a wonderful player in all formats. MS is also a great captain & inspires !"

After failing to reach double digits in the first four matches, Dhoni find some rhythm in Pune's last match against Royal Challengers Bangalore where he scored 28 runs before being dismissed by Shane Watson.

Despite being in the list of batsmen who have hit maximum sixes in IPL history, Dhoni so far has just two sixes under his belt from five matches in the tenth edition.

Pune had a forgettable maiden season last year under Dhoni's captaincy, where they finished second from bottom.

While his wicketkeeping skills are still the best in the business, it remains to be seen whether he can revive Pune's campaign in the tournament in the upcoming matches with the bat.
