2 killed in police firing in Vadodara

One person was killed in police firing and eight were injured in a clash between members of two communities during Ganesha idol immersion at Fatehpura locality of the city on Monday, police said.

police firing and eight were injured in a clash between
members of two communities during Ganesha idol immersion at
Fatehpura locality of the city on Monday, police said.

Police opened fire to control the violence that
erupted in the communally-sensitive area erupted following an
argument between revellers participating in Ganesha immersion
and residents of the area last night.

Four shops were set on fire and three shops looted
during the violence.

Initially, police lobbed teargas shells but they
proved ineffective, they added.

Meanwhile, ity commissioner of police Rakesh Asthana
said police have stepped up vigil in the sensitive areas of
the city.

Four more SRP companies have been despatched to the
city for stregtherning the security arrangement, he added.
