Munger (Bihar): A four-member central team on Monday visited the cerebral malaria-hit Munger district, where five unconfirmed deaths due to the disease were reported in the past three days.
Official sources said the deadly brain fever claimed
at least 25 lives since outbreak of the deadly disease in the
first week of July in 70 villages of Kharagpur sub-division
and Dharhara block.
A central team, led by Joint Director of Union Health
and Family Welfare Ministry S N Sharma, was visiting the area
since Friday last to probe the circumstances leading to the
outbreak and was camping in neighbouring Jamui.
The sources said measures to contain spread of the
disease, like DDT fumigation, has been launched in the areas.
The health authorities yesterday decided to conduct a
second medical examination of 1,566 persons, suspected to be
afflicted by the disease, following revelations that their
previous lab tests were done by expired kits.
Though out of the 1566 serum samples, 610 were found
to be positive, a second test was necessary as the tests were
conducted by expired kits, District Medical Officer
(In-charge) R R Choudhry said.
Meanwhile police sources said even Naxalites, who had
made affected Bhimbandh as their base, were forced to migrate
to some other places in the wake of outbreak of the disease.
