Dubai, Aug 29: Burj-al-Arab or Arabian Tower in Dubai has been named the tallest hotel in the world by the Guinness Book of Records 2001, media said here.
The hotel in the shape of a ship soars 321 metres above the Arabian Gulf. It has already become as much a point of reference in Dubai as the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Burj-al-Arab is said to be taller than the French monument and just 60 metre shorter than New York’s Empire State building.
Built on a man-made island 280 metre off-shore, the much-acclaimed hotel houses 202 suites and occupies a total floor area of 1,11,480 sq mt. It took 3,500 designers, engineers and construction staff to fashion this structure out of 3,60,000 cubic metres of concrete.
