On the eve of Dussehra, Andhra Pradesh Government has announced setting up of a university, a medical college and a college in backward Telengana region.

Pradesh Government has announced setting up of a university, a
medical college and a college in backward Telengana region.

"We will be setting up a regular university near Bhoodan
Pochampally in Nalgonda which would cater the needs of the
students in Mahboonagar and Nalgonda districts," Andhra
Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajsekhar Reddy told reporters here
On Sunday.

Pochampalli village attained importance with Vinoba Bhave
starting his `Bhoodan' movement from the place in 1951.

Karimnagar and Vizianagaram districts would each have a
JNTU College while Adilabad, Prakasam and Srikakulam districts
would have one medical college each, Reddy said.

Nalgonda, Karimnagar and Adilabad are in Telengana region
while Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and Prakasam are considered to
be backward regions among coastal region.

The announcement comes close on the heels of TRS pulling
out of UPA coalition after K Chandrsekhara Rao quitting his
Karimnagar Lok Sabha seat in protest against "The Centre not
taking adequate steps for formation of separate Telengana".

On the auctioning of lands for industrial development in
the state, Reddy said, development and welfare should go hand
in hand. "We have been taking up infrastructure development and
building houses for the weaker sections giving equal priority
to both," he said.

Meanwhile, Reddy in an open letter addressed to the
people on eve of Dussehra, said that the state plans to
provide water to an additional 14 lakh acres of land in the
coming year besides building 18 lakh houses under `Indiramma'
scheme.

Providing an additional Rs 25 crore loans to farmers
apart from 1.5 lakh power connections are on the agenda, he
said in the letter, released to the media today.

Giving top priority for empowerment of women and people
belonging to weaker sections through various schemes would
take place in the next 12 months, he said.

On the industrial front, he said, all efforts would be
made to place the state capital behind Delhi and Mumbai.
