Sidhu not averse to contesting assembly polls in Punjab

After winning the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu seems game to the idea of contesting the coming assembly elections in Punjab.

Chandigarh, Oct 01: After winning the Amritsar Lok
Sabha seat, cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Singh Sidhu
seems game to the idea of contesting the coming assembly
elections in Punjab.

"I am a soldier. Whatever directions I get from my party
general I will not hesitate in following. I will follow the
directions of Arun Jaitley (BJP general secretary in charge of
Punjab)," he told reporters here today when asked whether he
would contest.

The BJP MP played down differences between his party and
the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) over the issue of seat sharing.

"There are no differences...Opinion differs within family
members also. Everything will be settled amicably," he said.

Earlier, much to the disappointment of a sizeable
gathering here, Sidhu did not make any speech from the stage
where BJP chief Rajnath Singh among others addressed the
gathering.

SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal was conspicuous by his
absence at the function organised by local BJP. However, SAD
general secretary Kanwaljit Singh attended the function.
