The government said on Friday that electronic hardware exports have registered an impressive 27 per cent hike in rupee terms during 1999-2000 after two years of continuous slowdown.

The government said on Friday that electronic hardware exports have registered an impressive 27 per cent hike in rupee terms during 1999-2000 after two years of continuous slowdown.

Electronic hardware worth Rs 2,600 crore or $605 million was exported from india during 1999-2000 against Rs 2,050 crore or 494 million dollars in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal, an official statement said in New Delhi.

“The most spectacular turnaround has been in computer hardware segment which doubled to Rs 600 crore worth of exports or $279 million, after witnessing a steep decline in the previous year,” it said.

Increased global demand for video films and software was reflected in 70 per cent export growth at Rs 725 crore or 169 million dollars from Rs 425 crore or 102 million dollars in the previous fiscal.
