Srinagar: The NC-Congress government in the
state today announced 15,000 jobs in public and private
sectors for migrant Kashmiri Pandits and asserted that
rehabilitation of the community was one of its priorities.
"The rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandits will be like a
dream fulfilled for all of us. A package of 15,000 jobs for
them in government and private sectors has been approved,"
Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said presenting the first
budget of the coalition.
For people of the community, who are not government
employees eligible for medical schemes, he announced a 50 per
cent grant from government.
It is, however, subject to a ceiling of Rs 5,000 per
family, for meeting cost of premium for a year, if they enlist
themselves under mediclaim policy of any recognised insurer he
said and announced a budgetary allocation of Rs 10 crore.
A package of Rs 130 crore has been proposed for
construction and completion of 5,242 tenements for the pandits
under the Prime Minister`s Reconstruction Plan.
About rehabilitation of victims of militancy he said,
"The government has provided 825 jobs during the last six
months to affected families." About Rs 50 crore have been
spent so far to rehabilitate 1,233 families.
