Coimbatore, Oct 10: In continuing war of words between Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa over the handling of official files, the
Tamil Nadu CM today claimed nearly 1,300 files were pending awaiting her signature at the end of the previous AIADMK rule.

Only around 20,000 files were put up before the Chief Minister between 2001 and May, 2006 and out of this nearly 1,300 were pending for clearance, he told reporters here.

She had made 'lying as a way of her life', he charged reacting to Jayalalithaa's reported remarks that she had signed nearly 60,000 files and no file was pending for her clearance.

Karunanidhi alleged that a government order to disburse over Rs 1,800 crore for tsunami relief was issued on July 1, 2005 during the AIADMK regime without getting the Chief Minister's signature.

Giving the year-wise break up of files sent to her, he claimed even the file for ratifying the expenditure, sent in January 2006 was not signed by Jayalalithaa and he only had to
sign it after assuming office.

On the Periyar Dam issue, he said the strategy for solving the dispute with Kerala would be evolved at an all party meeting to be convened after the local body elections.

"It is not fair to discuss or talk on the issue here. The government wants to discuss with all political parties," he said.

On the proposed Salem railway division, announced some time back, he said he had already contacted Railway Minister Lalu Prasad and a letter would be sent soon to expedite the work.

On the long pending demand for raising the height of Siruvani Dam, again on Tamil Nadu-Kerala border, Karunanidhi said efforts would be taken, if the competent authorities provided data regarding the matter.
