Sabyasachi offers no surprises but simple elegance on Day 4

Fashion’s blue eyed boy Sabyasachi Mukherjee didn’t disappoint with his show on Day 4 of the Lakme Fashion Week here in Mumbai. Fashion’s blue eyed boy Sabyasachi Mukherjee didn’t disappoint with his show on Day 4 of the Lakme Fashion Week here in Mumbai. He understands the business of fashion and clearly has his eyes on the domestic market. But almost all of Bollywood attendance on Day 4 was seen at his show- Rahul Bose, Rani Mukherjee, Vidya Balan and Maureen Wadia.
Shimmering saris, flat pants, beige and earthy hues with a shine here a glittery embellishment there, sleek bags with symmetrical hemlines was the main feature of the show.

“His colours, the cuts of his dresses, drapes etc are always refreshing, never seen before,” said an otherwise quiet Rahul Bose after the show.

Vidya Balan thought Sabyasachi had continued with his out of box styles, executed with elegance and dignity.

No gaudy embroidery, no sequins or other distracting embellishments. Budding designer Anuj Sharma let his fabric cascade in gentle folds, using just eyelets and buttons to pull it together for his elegant range.

"I work with minimal embellishments," Anuj told agencies after the show that won applause.

The collection had a wide range of long and short dresses. Motifs were created by punching eyelets in a row at regular intervals, creating different shapes, layers and designs. For halter dresses, leather straps were used.

Park Avenue focussed on office wear, one expected to walk into an auditorium devoid of any stellar celebrity presence. There was no Jade Jagger to flash her tanned legs in the front row nor was there any Padma Lakshmi in a barely-there outfit.

Together, Gautam and Navaz Singhania on the ramp were handsome and exciting showstoppers for the premium formal wear brand from Raymond Apparel Limited that comprises an exquisite collection of formal business, leisure, travel and evening wear for men and women which definitely attracted the elite class of Mumbai.

Socialite Aarti Surendranath (who came with her husband, Kailash) felt the entire collection made a statement. “It reflected the lifestyle of the brand owners – the Singhania family – and what’s more appealing is the fact that they themselves wear Park Avenue. Clearly, Gautam and Navaz are the brands best ambassadors,” she exclaimed!

Also spotted in the front row at this showing was Amisha Patel’s estranged mother, Asha, and designer Nandita Mahtani.

Rimzim Dadu is an unassuming designer but pretty sure of her designs. Her show called ‘Rustic’ had colours of the season- browns, cobalt, deep greens- all close to the season.

It was a western wearable line with big rectangular bangles, big collars. Quite high street with a lot of texture.

Vivek Kumar’s draped knits, sequined tops formed the part of his collection called ‘The Lost King’, which according to him was the sequel to his last year’s ‘WWWIII’. He sealed our lips with a corset over a sari.Asmita Marwa attracted some of her friends from Mollywood- Venkatesh, Siddharth and Nagarjuna. Her kurtas, smock tops, and tunics were in simple silhouettes. A striking red bubble top and a dramatic lehenga lent the chutzpah.
