UP Council rocked as BJP blames govt for rising dengue cases

Rise in number of dengue cases in Uttar Pradesh today rocked proceeding of the state legislative Council with BJP members alleging that apathetic attitude of the government was responsible for the spread of the disease.

Lucknow, Oct 09: Rise in number of dengue cases in Uttar Pradesh today rocked proceeding of the state legislative Council with BJP members alleging that apathetic attitude of the government was responsible for the spread of the disease.
Raising the matter during zero hour through an adjournment notice, BJP's Sheema Rizvi said that while the number of dengue and other vector-borne diseases were on the
rise, municipal corporations and municipalities were yet to finalise their rostering plan for ensuring fogging in cities.

She alleged that the Health Department officials had failed to supervise the fogging drive effectively resulting in rise in the dengue cases.

The leader of teachers group, Om Prakash Sharma, said that reality of government's claim about cleanliness drive and fogging could be gauged from the fact that even the MLAs'
residence were stinking and waste could be seen littering everywhere.

In his reply, the leader of the house, Ahmad Hasan, said seven people have died of dengue and 259 suspected cases of the disease have been reported in the state.

He, however, said that the state government had issued strict directives to the health and civic authorities to check spread of the disease and there was no dearth of funds either
for fogging, detection kits or medicines.

Necessary directives have already been issued to respective chief medical officers to undertake fogging and sprinkling of insecticides, he said.

Council chairman Sukhram Singh Yadav rejecting the notice, directed the government to clarify the status of fogging in the state and ensure cleanliness around the MLAs'
residence.
