New Delhi: The BJP, Thursday, sharpened its attack on Home Minister P Chidambaram over his role in the controversial allocation of 2G spectrum.
Armed with the Finance Ministry’s note to the PMO which revealed that the airwaves could have been auctioned in 2008 if Chidambaram, then the finance minister, had "stuck to his stand", the BJP said that the correspondence clearly points that Chidambaram had a role to play.
Senior party leader and chairman of the Public Accounts Committee that had looked into the 2G scam, Murli Manohar Joshi said, “Chidambaram should resign or be dismissed by the Congress party.”
The BJP leader also criticised Central Bureau of Investigation for not probing the role of Home Minister, adding that he would request the country’s premier agency to question Chidambaram.
Murli Manohar Joshi also asked the Home Minster to assess the damage to come forward and explain his stand.
He also said that Pranab Mukherjee’s statement on the grave issue is unacceptable. The Finance Minister had today morning said: "The matter is sub-judice. The court is looking into it."
Mukherjee acknowledged such a note had indeed been written by his office but declined further comment on the matter, saying it was sub-judice.
Joshi is the chairman of PAC which had taken up the CAG report that had pegged the loss due to faulty spectrum policy at Rs 78.000 crore.
