Heavy rains claimed two lives in Uttar Pradesh, while playing truant in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh causing a rise in temperature and humidity levels today.

Uttar Pradesh, while playing truant in most parts of Punjab,
Haryana and Chandigarh causing a rise in temperature and
humidity levels today.

Major rivers were overflowing in Uttar Pradesh where two
persons died in rain-related incidents since last evening.

According to the Central Water Commission, the Ganga was
rising at almost all the places including Varanasi, Ghazipur,
Mirzapur, Allahabad, Ankinghat, Ballia and Gumtia in UP.

The Yamuna, the Ghaghara, the Rapti were also in spate as
heavy showers lashed the state with Maharajganj receiving
maximum 107.8 mm rainfall.

Southwest monsoon was aggressive over Rajasthan with
heavy rains lashing Puskhar and western regions including
Sirohi, Pali, Mount Abu since last night.

Pushkar received 10 cm rainfall followed by Sojat 7 cm,
Mount Abu 6 cm, and Mukandra 5 cm, according to Met office.

However, absence of rains in Delhi and most parts of
Punjab and Haryana caused a rise in temperature as humidity in
the national capital swung between 58 and 94 per cent.

The mercury touched a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius in
Delhi which is a degree above the normal for this period of
the year.

The minimum also shot up above normal levels to touch
27.4 degrees Celsius. This was two degrees above normal.

Maximum temperature in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh
soared by up to two degrees Celsius above normal in the region
which also faced severe humid conditions.

Hisar remained hottest in the region with a high of 37.5
degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

Ambala settled at a high of 35 degrees Celsius, while
Patiala recorded 34.8 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Amritsar
settled at an identical high of 34 degrees Celsius. Karnal and
Chandigarh recorded 33.4 and 33.8 degrees Celsius,
respectively.
