UPA "outsourcing" foreign policy from US: Shourie

Arun Shourie today accused the UPA government of "outsourcing" the country`s foreign policy to the US in the wake of industrialised nations (G-8) putting curbs on full nuclear cooperation with countries like India.

New Delhi: Senior BJP leader Arun Shourie
today accused the UPA government of "outsourcing" the
country`s foreign policy to the US in the wake of
industrialised nations (G-8) putting curbs on full nuclear
cooperation with countries like India.

Shourie also accused Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of
"diluting" his statements regarding the resumption of
dialogue with Pakistan under US pressure.

"During the nuclear deal debate, we had said that the
US will not transfer sensitive technology to India. The Prime
Minister gave an assurance that the country was assured of
full nuclear cooperation.

"Yesterday G-8 people have come to an understanding that
such technology shall not be transferred without the country
signing the non-proliferation treaty. This goes completely on
the contrary to the assurance given by Prime Minister on the
floor of the Rajya Sabha," Shourie told reporters.

Apprehending that India will now be under pressure from
US to sign treaties like NPT, CTBT and FMCT, the BJP leader
said, "The government has outsourced Indian foreign policy to
the Americans.

"This is evident in the way Prime Minister is diluting
his statements regarding resumption of dialogue with
Pakistan."

"First the PM said no dialogue with Pakistna till
terrorist infrastructure is dismantled there. Nothing was
done. Then he said that Pakistan must do something against
those who carried out the 26/11 attacks in India.

"Now the PM says I hope they will do something. Again
he is saying I will be prepared to meet the Prime Minister of
Pakistan on any issue, which means even that last hope of a
pre-condition was given up under American pressure," Shourie
said.
