Asia Cup T20, Match 4: India capable of facing Pakistani bowlers, says Sunil Gavaskar

New Delhi: Ahead of the high-profile Asia Cup clash between India and Pakistan, former India skipper Sunil Gavaskar said that Men in Blue's power-packed batting line up is good enough to deal with the pace-battery of arch-rivals.

“...lets not get carried away with Pakistan bowling attack and have faith in our new ball attack. Because in batting if you see, Indian batting are better capable of handling Pakistan pace attack then Pakistan batting is capable of handling Indian attack,” Gavaskar told NDTV.

Besides, the sexagenarian also feels that if in-form Indian openers – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan – get going then they would make the life difficult for the Pakistani bowlers.

“Pakistan will have to deal with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, both have been in good form. Shikhar might not have scored runs in Bangladesh but he has done well against the Sri Lankans and Australians and Rohit has been simply outstanding. Virat will also figure in there but he might not get many overs if Rohit and Shikhar get going,” added Gavaskar.

Though India are certainly the favourites going into the match, Gavaskar still warned MS Dhoni & Co not to take their old rivals lightly.

“We should not get carried away with India’s performance. Pakistan too are in T20 mode as they played in Pakistan Super League. They are ready, they know how big this match is. India will do well if they don’t take it easy,” said the Little Master.

India will lock horns with Pakistan on Saturday at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur.
