Sydney: Australian captain Michael Clarke has said that left-handed batsman Usman Khawaja has a bright future and his ability to bat anywhere in the order would hold him in good stead for future tours.
Khawaja was dumped from the squad for the third Test against Sri Lanka last week to make way for Ricky Ponting, who had missed the second Test to attend the birth of his second child.
It came after Ponting’s replacement Shaun Marsh made the most of his call-up with a century on debut.
“Uzzy is a very good and talented player and as he’s shown on this trip once again he can bat anywhere in the order,” Clarke said.
“He started against some good spin bowlers in tough spin conditions. It’s a wonderful talent and anyone who can bat anywhere in the order has to be a bonus to the team,” he added.
Australia sealed the three-Test match series 1-0 on Tuesday, and will now tour South Africa to play two Twenty20s, three ODIs and a two-match Test series.
