ICC World Twenty20: India are favorites and West Indies the dark horses, says Jonty Rhodes

New Delhi: Like most experts, Jonty Rhodes too believes India are favorites to win their second WT20 crown come April.

Rhodes has closely worked with Rohit Sharma, Harbhajan Singh, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya during his stint with the Mumbai Indians.

He not only understands the Indian players well, but also the conditions on offer.

“For me, the favourites are India. They tick every box batting, bowling, both pace and spin and now fielding too. In the past, India used to be 10-15 runs worse than most teams in the field. Now, they have one or two players who are possibly at par in the field, but the rest are above par,” wrote the former South African batsman in his Times of India column.

Rhodes went on to add that Darren Sammy's side too cannot be taken lightly in this format.

“The dark horses for me are the West Indies. They are reliant on a few players, but in T20 cricket, one or two players can win or lose a game. They have good athletes in the field and also some great strikers,” he further wrote.

Both India and West Indies are previous winners of WT20.

While the Men in Blue look a formidable unit this time, the Caribbean boys too have plenty of firepower in their ranks to create an upset.
