Vijay Hazare trophy final: Parthiv Patel, RP Singh guide Gujarat to maiden title over Delhi

New Delhi: Parthiv Patel and RP Singh, two of India's former cricketers on Monday helped Gujarat beat Delhi convincingly in the final of Vijay Hazare trophy by 139 runs.

Gautam Gambhir's decision to bat first after winning the toss in the crucial match proved to be a big mistake as Gujarat posted a formidable total of 273 runs on board.

Opening the innings, Patel led from the front as he slammed 105 runs. The left-hander batted for 119 balls and his innings was laced with 10 fours and a six.

Patel was given a life when he was dropped on 67 by Manan Sharma off his own bowling after he hit straight into the hands of the left-arm spinner.

Rujul Bhatt and Chirag Gandhi also chipped in with pivotal knocks of 60 and 44 runs respectively.

In reply, RP Singh tore Delhi's star-studded batting line-up in pieces with four wickets, including key scalps of Shikhar Dhawan (5) and Gautam Gambhir (9). Even though Axar Patel, who had a briliant tournament ahead of the final, went wicketless, RP was well supported by Jasprit Bumrah who ran through Delhi's lower middle-order with a five-wicket haul.

Delhi had a glimmer of hope till the time Unmukt Chand (33) was at the crease, but he failed to resurrect the innings for his team.

Brief scores:

Gujarat 273/9 in 50 overs (Parthiv Patel 105, Rujul Bhatt 60; Pawan Negi 2/36).

Delhi 134 all out in 32.3 overs (Pawan Negi 57; R P Singh 4/42, Jasprit Bumrah 5/28).
